Our final soup of the year will be hosted on June 1st. Join us in a celebration of the 2013-2014 year, including updates from our grant winners and (of course) some delicious soup.
We are excited to present the premiere of Brotherly Love, a new multimedia work by composer Scott Ordway. PhilaSoup, with support from the American Composers Forum, commissioned Ordway to create this musical piece to highlight the voices of Philadelphia students. The composer interviewed more than 100 students, asking each to answer the simple question: "What does it mean to live in the city of brotherly love?" The final piece presents recorded student voices interwoven with original music for string quartet.
As we end this school year, we also invite teachers to reflect on lessons learned. Submit a proposal to receive funding for professional development or a classroom project.
Haven't heard about the PhilaSoup model yet? It's simple.
1. You pay for a ticket. That ticket money, along with partner donations, creates a grant.
2. At the event, you listen to educators present proposals, ask follow up questions, then vote for your favorites. Afterward, everyone enjoys soup cooked by community members and/or donated by great local businesses.
3. Proposals win portions of the grant money based on your votes! Every presenter receives some of the money.
4. You get to leave with a warm belly and the fuzzy feeling that comes with making cool things happen.
Ticket includes soup and dessert.
