This past weekend’s Spring snow storm did not stop a group of dedicated educators from attending Teach For America’s “Grow In Greater Philadelphia” event on Saturday April 9th. More than 100 educators gathered at Carver High School to attend sessions related to their roles as teachers and educators.
All attendees of the conference were invited to participate in a “Flash Soup” co-led by PhilaSoup and PledgeCents. Participants were invited to share what they would do in their classrooms or school if given $200. Three project ideas were randomly selected, and the authors of these mini-proposals spoke about their projects, while the audience voted on the project they wished to fund.
The winner of this mini-Soup, Sterling Grimes from Mastery Charter School, received a $50 Amazon gift card to help fund a class trip to see a professional production of Macbeth. The other two proposed projects were purchasing a 3-D printer for kids to use, and creating an outdoor garden for students.
A huge thank you to Teach For America having us at their amazing event and for donating the proceeds of this event to PhilaSoup!
