2013 reGenerate Philly Summit

From September 6-8, PhilaSoup competed in the 2013 reGenerate Philly Summit hosted by Mobilize.  The weekend was geared towards innovative solutions by Millennials for Millennials, addressing the issues they face in our city of Philadelphia.  The competition culminated with the awarding of $25,000 split between five winning groups.

The weekend started with a casual meet-and-greet, during which participants and observers could explore the numerous proposals that had been accepted to compete, each of which had a tri-fold board exhibiting the specific organization and project specifics.  During this time, each individual had been given three votes to give to his/her projects of choice.  At the end of the evening, the votes were tallied and the top ten most highly-voted projects were invited to proceed and compete in the final presentation round on Sunday.  BUT the ten winners weren't announced until Saturday morning...can you imagine the suspense?!

Saturday was filled with discussion groups addressing broad issues that are prevalent in our city (and, in fact, many cities across our country).  It was interesting to speak with other presenters and event attendees, not only to learn their perspectives on the prompted issues, but to get to know the various backgrounds from which they came and experiences they had.  During lunchtime, we were invited to participate in discussion groups led by various organizations -- either local or national -- that focus on giving back.  I think this was one of the highlights of the event.

Saturday evening was spent finalizing our PowerPoint presentation for Sunday's final competition round.  We had so much fun putting this together.

Sunday morning came, and despite having a little case of the butterflies, we presented our PhilaSoup Teacher Ambassador program to the group with flying colors.  There were so many great project ideas that were presented; it was inspiring to be surrounded by such creative, determined peers.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...drum roll please...PHILASOUP WON! We were (and are!) so thrilled.  With this grant, we will not only be able to launch our Teacher Ambassador Program, but we will also be able to use space at ImpactHub in Fishtown for events and meetings, and we are officially partners with Mobilize.  How cool is that?!

Congratulations to the other winners and a HUGE thank you to Mobilize for hosting the event and including us.  Now, who's ready to become a PhilaSoup Teacher Ambassador?!
